Team Give-Away

How about we take a few moments out of our busiest season for a bit of fun?

Fellow-ambassador Tricia Santos and I had the pleasure of hosting Rebecca Guay and Burleigh Muten for an author/illustrator-signing. Generous and gracious - everyone loved meeting them.

Can you believe Rebecca Guay sketched her signature? This beauty has been sitting on my shelf waiting for a proper home.

If you haven't seen this Barefoot book, it is an illuminated dictionary portraying the thoughts and ideas of other minds and cultures. Rebecca revealed that she took a bit of criticism after the books release for the cover-design of a blond-haired, blue-eyed goddess. Hmmm. I love those little tidbits. I also love Rebecca's other book with Barefoot, The Barefoot Book of Ballet Stories.

Look, Burleigh signed the book as well!

Burleigh has published four books with Barefoot. Burleigh's book, Grandmothers' Stories has always been a best-seller for me. When asked whom she would like to narrate the book, top on her list was Olympia Dukakis and it was also top on Barefoot's list. Aren't we thrilled Ms. Dukakis agreed?

So, how do I win the book, Richele?!?

Leave a comment (sorry, this give-away is just for my beloved team but still feel free to comment) and tell me anything. Ask a question, tell me your thoughts regarding the book, the author, the illustrator, what you would do with the book, what you are up to at the moment...you get the picture. This will be a random chance drawing and will end October 31st.

  3. I haven't had a chance to read this yet, but I'm very excited to pair this book up with some great activities! I've been looking for a reason to host a toga party :)

  5. This one has been on my wish list for awhile too but it never makes the cut when I'm ordering. I've always been fascinated by tales of the gods and goddesses and this book is beautiful!

I'm already trying to decide what I will do with all the signed books that I plan to win in the 4th quarter challenge... Maybe I will install a special shelf so that I can display them in my home. I know it would make me smile to look at those beautiful books everyday :)

  6. I've always wanted to promote Barefoot Books through author signings....especially when we have beautifully created art and story as in the Goddess Book.

I hope to earn the first or second prize ending the fourth quarter.

    Much success to all!

  7. This book looks amazing. I just received my first stock order and had it on until the last minute(for myself)and decided to get The Barefoot Book of Earth Tales instead. I have been kicking myself ever since! I have three daughters and although they would be a little young to enjoy this right now I am so excited to teach them about strong and diverse women. It is part of why I was so drawn to BFBs. The art look amazing for this book!

  8. I teach 5th grade. Right now the Percy Jackson book series is very hot and so is Greek mythology (which I love). I would love to share this book with my class because I think it would be the perfect fit for their age and interest.

  9. This book is at the Number One slot for me... I've wanted it for the longest time! I would be counting my lucky stars to own such a beautifully signed copy. :) Goddess mythology is a big part of my life, and I look forward to sharing this with my newest daughter soon. I am so impressed with the artwork in all the Barefoot Books, but this particular book is just gorgeous.

  10. Its on my wishlist too! I'm currently working with one, possibly two, dance studios for fundraising and I thought it would be a great addition to promote to a group that is primarily girls and women. The illustrations look beautiful. I love that she sketched her signature. How unique!

  11. Yes on my wish list as well. Such a beautifully illustrated cover. It will certainly be in my next stock order! Olympia Dukakis to narrate-how perfect!

  12. Oops, let me clarify...Olympia Dukakis narrated "Grandmothers' Stories" by Burleigh Muten. I didn't mean to mislead you, just wanted to throw in an interesting tidbit about that books production.

"Goddesses" has not been narrated. It is in an illustrated dictionary format.

I'm really enjoying all the comments - interesting things we can learn about each other in such a small space.

  13. Richele, you are indeed a rockstar! I love learning about Barefoot's authors and illustrators, and any "behind the sceness" tidbits. You've definitely peaked my interest - this will be in my next order. Thanks Richele!

  14. "Goddesses" looks like a great book to read with my daughter. Thanks Richele for highlighting the book and giving it away to a member on your team. Chosen or not I will be getting this for our home library.

  15. Richele,

I would absolutely treasure this book for my two daughters (five and 7)as a reference book to delight in and as a beautiful model as they grow into their divine inheritance as powerful women. I could take a letter each week, read the goddess entry together and have each of us (yes, even me!) choose a virtue that is inherent in that goddess to develop in ourselves. I would open this book into a Plexiglas cookbook stand to illustrate the local Massachusetts talent in BFB. I know that this book would go over fabulously at the Waldorf Fair coming up Nov 20th where I'll be a vendor. Burleigh Muten's Grandmother's Tales is a favorite of ours. This would be a 'keeper' for us!

  16. This book is wonderful. While it isn't one of my best sellers, mainly because it appeals to a small group, it is a consistent seller. Even at my recent really-bad event I sold a copy of this book!

I love that it explores mythology from many cultures, not just ancient Greek culture. Thank you for offering this up as a prize.

  17. I haven't been so excited yet about Barefoot Books. I don't have the money to purchase a lot of books myself. That is why I joined Barefoot Books. But, I see potential. I have tried a few things like Africa's Book Store on FB, but no sales yet. I want to post some fliers at schools and in bookstores where possible. Do you have any ideas on how to get started without books?

  18. Hi Richele, Nice to meet you. I just joined and am getting started as an Ambassador. I hope I can get this to go somewhere! I have a link on my blog as well as a Facebook page. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Cow-Over-MoonBarefoot-Books/182509255129494 I'll have some fun stuff to share soon! Would love to win the book to add to my collection!
